invertebrates and their relationship to vertebrate globin
proteins
- in particular the detection of invertebrate orthologs of vertebrate Neuroglobin and Globin X
- phyletic distribution of the globin gene superfamily
- examination of the globin gene repertoire of different taxonimc groups, e.g. Amoebozoa
- determination of evolutionary mechanisms that shaped the distribution of globin genes
- functional evolution of globin genes, e.g. detection of conserved
transcription factor binding sites via phylogenetic footprinting
