Research interests

  •  evolution of globin proteins in invertebrates and their relationship to vertebrate globin proteins
    • in particular the detection of invertebrate orthologs of vertebrate Neuroglobin and Globin X
  • phyletic distribution of the globin gene superfamily
    • examination of the globin gene repertoire of different taxonimc groups, e.g. Amoebozoa
    • determination of evolutionary mechanisms that shaped the distribution of globin genes
  • functional evolution of globin genes, e.g. detection of conserved transcription factor binding sites via phylogenetic footprinting
